Village Harmony Alumni Concert
The repertoire includes songs from Caucasus Georgia, Bulgaria, Corsica, and South Africa, contemporary and traditional American shape-note tunes and villancicos by Francisco Guerrero.
Village Harmony is an organization dedicated to the study, teaching and performance of harmony singing traditions from across the world, and sponsors an extensive program of travleing singing camps both in New England and abroad. The young alumni singers, ages 19-26 are all veterans of many years of these Village Harmony programs, including overseas tours in South Africa, Macedonia and Georgia.
Carl Linich has been a scholar, teacher,and performer of traditional Georgian polyphonic singing since 1990, and is a member of the Georgian Trio Kavkasia, and the Sardinian vocal quartet Tenores de Aterué. A fluent Georgian speaker, Carl lived in Georgia for 10 years, and received two prestigious merit awards from the Georgian government in recognition of his work to promote and preserve Georgian folk music. He has been teaching regularly with Village Harmony since 2000.
Larry Gordon is the founder and co-director of Village Harmony and also the conductor of Onion River Chorus in Montpelier, Vermont. He has led Village Harmony touring camps since 1990 including numerous tours to South Africa, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy and Germany. He has earned a worldwide reputation through 18 extended European tours with his semi-professional enemble Northern Harmony. He has a huge repertoire of early music and American shape-note music as well as traditional singing styles from South Africa, the Balkans and Corsica.
