WAITLIST - President's Series: Octavia E. Butler's Parables: A Music Talk with Toshi Reagon
**WAITLIST - NOT A TICKET**
You will notified by email before the event if space becomes available.

Join Toshi Reagon, acclaimed composer and lyricist, for an evening related to her operatic adaption of Octavia E. Butlers science fiction novel "Parable of the Sower." Performances by Reagon and guests from diverse disciplines will respond to Butlers three Earthseed novels, which also include "Parable of the Talents" and the unpublished third work, "Parable of the Trickster." These creative engagements highlight the relevance of Butlers work to the social and political landscape of contemporary Los Angeles.

The program features new poetry by Sophie Kim (Los Angeles Youth Poet Laureate, 2018), a dramatic dialogue written and performed by Tamisha A. Tyler (Co-Executive Director, Art | Religion | Culture) and Phil Allen (Ph.D. student, Fuller Theological Seminary), data visualization created by Shelley De Leon (Data scientist, City of Hope), and a multimedia presentation by Melodie Yashar (co-founder, Space Exploration Architecture). Claudia L. Peña will serve as emcee. Presented in association with UCLAs Center for the Art of Performance.
