Dr. Lara Boyd: The Learning Brain Talk
In this talk, Dr. Boyd will review how the brain changes with learning and development. She will discuss how stress and anxiety affects the brain and learning. Dr. Boyd will present recent data showing brain plasticity in children and conclude with some practical tips for maximizing learning and brain plasticity.
Dr. Lara Boyd is the Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Motor Learning, a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Career Investigator, a Peter Wall Scholar, and an Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, at the University of British Columbia. Her work focuses on the questions of what limits and what facilitates neuroplasticity - or, in other words, the ability of our brain to change throughout our lifetime. This is intricately linked to how we (and our children) both learn and continue to adapt.
