RISE: Healthy for Life sex ed teaches about healthy bodies, healthy relationships, and family and sexual diversity. We take the shame and fear out of sex, menstruation, pregnancy and birth, masturbation, and conversation. And we emphasize that guardians are their kids' most important sexuality educators.
We use the Our Whole Lives (OWL) lifespan sexuality curricula, which is is used across the country in private and public schools, after-school programs, and churches. All OWL facilitators go through intensive training for each level they teach and must be certified by their trainers.
RISE classes and OWL curricula are trauama-informed and age appropriate. We recognize that people make different decisions based on faith, cultural expectations, life experiences, and personal ethics, and we emphasizes respect, inclusion, and justice.
Specifically, this OWL class will help kids: -- Strengthen and support their sense of self and self-esteem. -- Recognize and appreciate their bodies as good and beautiful, private and their own. -- Gain understanding and accurate, age-appropriate information about human bodies, puberty, and reproduction. -- Develop more effective communication skills. -- Learn to make decisions that respect themselves and others and that anticipate possible consequences. --Learn about healthy habits and what to do when they don't feel safe or respected.
Classes will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. (please note the orientation time is different) A guardian hang-out room is available and a trained facilitator will be on hand to answer questions guardians might have.
(mandatory orientation) Feb. 8, 10 a.m.-12:30 (guardians & kids) Feb. 20 and 27 Mar. 5 and 12 Apr. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 May 7
It is important to us that these classes are accessible to everyone, so we have a tiered pricing structure. If you cannot pay for these classes at all, that's cool. Please sign your kids up anyhow--there will be no difference in the experience they or you have.
If you can support our work by contributing toward the class, we offer three other tiers of payment.
Tier 1: $35 covers some of the cost of the classes. Tier 2: $80 covers a little more than half the cost of the classes. Tier 3: $150 covers the entire cost of the classes.
If you wonder whether this class will be worth what you pay, just pay what you feel comfortable with--you can always make a further donation later if you want to.
If you would like to pay it forward for others, you can also make a donation to RISE: Healthy for Life at https://risehfl.org/donate.
Please contact Cindi Huss at info@riseHFL.org or 423-250-3046 with any questions.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Fund for Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility.
