Wrecks Bell in concert
In songwriting circles, Wrecks Bell is revered. Wrecks opened the first "listening room" in the nation in Galveston, Texas. "The Old Quarter" became famous for hosting songwriters like TOWNES VAN ZANDT, GUY CLARK & RICHARD DOBSON. Along with running his club, Wrecks also wrote songs and played bass for artists including TOWNES, LUCINDA WILLIAMS & LIGHNIN' HOPKINS. The Old Quarter moved to a different location in 1996 and in 2009 was nearly wiped out by Hurricane Ike. Musicians including WILLIE NELSON came to the rescue and raised the funds to get the Old Quarter back on its feet. Now in his senior years, Wrecks occasionally breaks away from his club to play other venues. We are proud that our buddy GARY RAGAN convinced his friend to come to Baton Rouge and play an acoustic gig at the Red Dragon. Of course Gary will open the show. I suspect he just might get up and play a bit with Wrecks, too. Come on out and meet a man who helped change the world of music.....at least our world of music!
