Echoing the Winter Woods:Explorations in Sound, Movement, & Textile Art
Set in the beautiful woods of Brown County State Park, this mini-retreat offers participants the opportunity to discover themselves through nature and arts experiences. Underwritten by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission, this free event is intended to serve Indiana residents who would not otherwise be able to participate. Designed for those aged 13+, this program requires registration and is limited to the first 33 registrants. No prior art or movement experience is required. Starting at the Abe Martin Lodge, our day will commence at 11 a.m. with an optional 1 hour hike to the Covered Bridge led by Park Naturalist Patrick Haulter. Immediately following, a variety of teas from local plants will be served. At 12:45 p.m. the first of 3 consecutive 85 minute sessions will begin with "Branching In", a workshop on movement meditation and all levels yoga practice. At 2:30 p.m. "Textile Art:Honoring Nature's Messages" will offer participants the chance to create colorful pouches for carrying messages/prayers, using recycled fabrics and other materials. These are yours to keep. At 4:15 p.m. we will begin our closing session,"Guided Song Circle & Musical Meditation". Participants will be led in a fun, vocal toning circle followed by a closing meditation with singing bowls. Our retreat will conclude at 5:30 p.m.
