MIA DYSON with THE BECKY CHACE BAND at SANDYWOODS
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2013 - MIA DYSON with THE BECKY CHACE BAND
7 pm, doors open 6:30 pm BYOB & BYOF (food) $15 advance, $18 at the door
Aussie blues/roots rocker and songwriter MIA DYSON shot to fame with the release of her "Cold Water" album in 2003 to great critical and popular acclaim. Her follow-up release, "Parking Lots," won Best Blues & Roots Album at the 2005 ARIA Awards. Mia's whisky-tinged voice has invited comparisons to Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, and the Boss. This hard-charging road warrior has headlined countless shows in Australia, Europe, the U.S. and Canada, played festivals worldwide, been nominated four times for an ARIA, and toured with Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, and Joe Cocker.
Mia has now released "The Moment," the most gutsy and revealing album of her life. "The Moment" frames her three-year journey into the mythic American landscape. It is an album about grabbing hold of what scares you most and letting go of trying to control your own fate. From the chronicle of an imploding relationship ("Pistol") to the life-affirming, heart-pounding joy of forging ahead ("When The Moment Comes"), to the empathetic gaze outward into a dark canon of Australian history ("Jesse"), this is a career-defining record for Mia Dyson.
Mia has an extraordinary depth of passion in her voice, a soulful feel for electric and lap slide guitars, and the kind of songwriting maturity that makes her a special kind of triple threat.
Roots rocker BECKY CHACE will knock you over with her voice. Her band, including longtime sidekick and ace guitarist Brian Minisce, will help you get back up and stand at attention. Becky recently released her new CD, "Rise and Fall."
Their vast catalog of original music is authentic, eclectic, and honest. Becky covers artists as diverse as Irving Berlin, Johnny Cash, and Men at Work. As long as the song is great, it doesn't matter if they wrote it or someone else did 100 years ago, they'll perform anything that moves them with groove, sensitivity, and passion.
Becky believes in the power of music. Whether she's playing her original songs with Brian as an acoustic duo, fronting her full band, or sharing the stage with acts like The Jammin' Divas and Forever Young, she is present in the moment, enjoying the connection of community that only music can create.
Becky has been performing at least 200 shows per year since she began promoting her first release in 1998 with Brian and her band. She's tough to pin down in terms of style she's that kind of musician who can't help but go in different directions. A throwback to the artists of the '60s and '70s who had intimate acoustic country ballads on the same records with blues, rock and pop, The Worcester Telegram has called Becky a "steamy cauldron of music, purveying the sort of countrified roots/folk rock that hits with a gritty, earthy edge." What people talk about most when it comes to Becky's music is her powerful voice. She has been compared to Melissa Etheridge, Lucinda Williams, and Bonnie Raitt.
Becky and Brian have opened for such national acts as B.B. King, Joan Jett, America, Judi Collins, The Gin Blossoms, Better Than Ezra, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Little Feat, Delbert McClinton, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, to name just a few.
