Robert Burns' Scotland Performance By Peter Walker
Critically acclaimed singer and award winning piper Peter Walker performs songs and pipe tunes from 18th century Scotland to celebrate the birthday of the great poet Robert Burns. Though best known today for Auld Lang Syne, Burns was famous in his own day as both the ploughman poet who charmed Edinburgh society, and as a folklorist who collaborated with several publishers to print collections of traditional songs from Lowland Scotland. Described as a commanding singer by a recent Boston Globe review, Peter Walker enjoys a varied career as a singer of early and classical music. Recent performances include bass solos with the GRAMMY-nominated Handel + Haydn Society, as well as appearances with GRAMMY-nominated Clarion Society Choir and GRAMMY-nominated Skylark Ensemble. Peter is a member of the storytelling and music duo Chapter House, has presented lectures on early music at Vassar College and the University of Virginia, and won the Overseas Class in the Lowland and Border Pipers Society Competition in 2016. The second half of the concert will feature dancing to 18th century Scottish tunes with Jeff and Kathy Walker.
