Mother of Mine
A momentous event in Finnish history is recounted in this heart-wrenching film. During World War II, 70,000 children were sent to Sweden for their protection. Nine-year-old Eero Lahti is one them. Told in fiashback form, Eero father is killed on the front. Eero´s mother makes the painful decision to send her only child to safety in neutral Sweden. In Sweden, Eero´s foster mother, Signe, welcomes him to her home but not to her heart. He doesn´t speak any Swedish and feels unwelcome in his foster family, while missing his mother terribly. All the long-awaited letters from his mother are addressed to Signe, not to him, and she only lets him read the ones she thinks are appropriate. That only makes things worse. When Eero returns to his biological family in Finland, his bewilderment only intensifies.
