The Monsters of Rock
Monsters of Rock A live musical and visual tribute to hair bands and metal bands of the 80s featuring the 5 piece band Monsters of Rock! Bang Your Heads at the Strand Theatre on Saturday, January 11 at 8pm!
Monsters of Rock: Tommy T Lead vocals Since the late 80s, Tom has sung at bars, night clubs, restaurants, cruise ships, arenas, arts centers, theaters, studios, churches, museums, libraries, auditoriums, race tracks, gymnasiums, hotels, car shows, ski lodges, fairgrounds, parks, fashion shows, shopping malls and even a couple of corn fields. He has also done concert tours of Poland in 2005 and Germany in 2006 and 2007. In addition to his first love - hard rock and heavy metal - Toms repertoire covers many other styles of music. These include opera, theater, doowop, classical art songs, sacred music and jazz standards. He sings in English, Italian, German, French, Latin, and Russian. Tom currently sings bass in the a cappella doowop group The Flipsydz, which he co-founded 11 years ago. Tom last played with Don, Bron and Gabe in The Sequel more than 25 years ago. He is VERY excited to have this opportunity return to his roots with his old friends - and new friend Tyler - to rock you all as Monsters of Rock!
Don Lackey Lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals, sound effects Back in the 80s Don was one of the guitarists for the rock band Blitzen playing mostly original material throughout Albany, including the long lost Saratoga Winners, NYC, New Jersey, and Connecticut. They opened for such bands as Lynch Mob, XYZ, EZO, and Foghat. In the early 90s he was a music major at SUNY Adirondack for two years and played in cover bands Dreamscape and The Sequel. Later he would join Jukebox Heroes, a popular rock band in Lake George, Glen Lake, and Vermont. In most recent years, Don has played with Even The Odd, Spoiler, and Something Wicked. Although he likes many styles of music, 80s metal has always been one of his favorites. His influences include Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Eddie Van Halen, and many of the bands being covered by Monsters of Rock! Don plays Schecter guitars and Line 6 amplification.
Bron Lapoint Lead guitar, keyboards, backing vocals Bron started playing guitar at the age of ten. Throughout the years, he developed an interest in players like Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, Steve Vai, John Sykes, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. At a young age, Bron was introduced to The Beatles, which played a major role in the reason for Brons love for music. He would later become interested in bands of the 80's, particularly bands of the heavy metal genre. Bron's musical tastes would soon broaden to music such as Country and even Jazz. Eventually, Bron began playing the club scene, which is then when he became more interested in singing and getting involved in harmony vocals. He played in bands like The Sequel, Misfit Toys, Jukebox Heroes, Even The Odd, Something Wicked, and currently Monsters of Rock. Bron plays a PRS electric guitar and uses a Line 6 amp.
Tyler Carey Bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals, sound effects Tyler is relatively new to the music scene, although he has been playing with bands for 25 years. He started with a band in High School called "Without a Cause" playing a few local gigs and parties. Tyler has played guitar, drums, keyboards, sang both lead and back up vocals, as well as his favorite and current instrument, the Bass Guitar. After a long time of searching, he found a home with the band Something Wicked. Now Monsters of Rock is allowing him to play the songs he grew up with, the songs he always wanted to play. He has always been a fan of all kinds of music but prefers rock n roll. Tyler credits bassists like Flea, and John Paul Jones, and guitarists like Stevie Ray Vaughn and Eddie Van Halen as some of his influences
Gabe Lapoint Drums, backing vocals Gabe started drumming back in the fourth grade in the elementary school band. He began by playing basic rudiments on the snare drum and was eventually introduced to playing simple beats on a drum kit. Gabe found he was able to learn the instrument relatively fast. He went onto performing in the high school jazz band where he learned the fundamentals of drumming. Years later, he started picking up styles from drummers like Neil Peart, Alex Van Halen, and Dave Weckl. Gabe also practiced to a metronome because he felt that timing was the most important part of a drummers role. When Gabe was in his early twenties, he started playing the bar scene in local bands like Dreamscape and The Sequel. Later, he helped form the band Jukebox Heroes. At this point, Gabe started taking an interest in backing and lead vocals. Since then, Gabes musical career has led him to join bands like Spoiler, Even The Odd, and Something Wicked. Now hes the driving force behind Monsters of Rock. Throughout the years, Gabe has played on Tama drums and used Paiste Cymbals. Gabe also uses Roland electronic drums.
