God's Ear
GOD'S EAR Oct. 10 - Nov. 10, 2008 West Coast Premiere! by Jenny Schwartz directed by Roger Benington
Thursdays through Mondays at 8pm (no show Friday Oct. 31) (special matinee performance added Sunday Nov. 9 at 2pm)
An ode to love, loss and the language of the unspeakable
Firmly rooted at the crossroads of what's said and what's unspeakable,GOD'S EAR examines the language of tragedy with unexpected grace, depth and humor. Brilliant new playwright Jenny Schwartz twists and warps the narrative of a couple mourning the death of their young son to expose the underlying beauty of their shattered reality, enlisting the help of alcoholics, cross-dressing airline stewardesses, the Toothfairy and a life-size GI Joe along the way. Lyrical and cyclical, this "arrestingly odd new play" (New York Times) is nothing short of a postmodern masterpiece. Quirky and surreal, it is an unfolding of the human heart told through a poignant and hilarious look at the language we use when we cannot bear to speak. Linguistically ingenious, Caryl Churchhill meets Mac Wellman in this unique and stunning West Coast Premiere.
