More About Alisa Fineman and Kimball Hurd
"Long time Aromas residents, Alisa and Kimball are a fresh folk/rock, pop duo with gorgeous harmonies, an exquisite blend of acoustic instruments and insightful lyrics that speak directly to the heart." -- Monterey County Weekly. Monterey Bay Area-based and long-time favorites here and in the San Francisco Bay area, Alisa Fineman and Kimball Hurd have earned national acclaim for their singing, songwriting and world music repertoire.
Known for her deep, emotional singing voice, Alisa's background in sacred music adds a compelling world music component to this duos lush repertoire. Alisa grew up in California's San Fernando Valley, born to a family rich in musical heritage. Her great grandfather played first trumpet with the New York Philharmonic under the legendary Toscanini. Her grandmother, a concert pianist, gave Alisa her first piano lessons. At the age of eleven Alisa began learning guitar, and a year later she was writing her first songs.
She is perfectly complemented by multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter Kimball Hurd, best known for his role in the trio City Folk. A Bammie (Bay Area Music Association) award winner, Kimball offers up songs from his own catalog of powerful originals such as his widely covered song Shine. His instrumental prowess adds dimension to the duo's performances with vocal harmonies and an array of tasteful musical accents on guitar, mandolin, mandola, dobro, banjo and slide guitar.
Their engaging, down to earth and loving collaboration has earned them appearances at at festivals such as California's Strawberry, Kate Wolf Music Festival, Austin's South-By-Southwest, the Kerrville Folk Festival and Jacobs Ladder Folk Festival in Israel. Their appreciation for the ordinary miracles of every day infuses their songs, which sing to a sense of place and possibility in us all.
The harmonies will be magical and the music extraordinary. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see these exceptional musicians and songwriters in our very own Aromas Community Grange Hall!!!
