H.M.S. Pinafore
The Sudbury Savoyards are thrilled to present our Winter 2020 production of H.M.S. Pinafore, one of Gilbert and Sullivan's best best known and best loved comic operas. Featuring songs such as He is an Englishman, We Sail the Ocean Blue, and many riotous chorus numbers, Pinafore was instrumental in shaping musical theatre as we know it, and it delights audiences to this day. All aboard!
Since 1961, the Sudbury Savoyards have specialized in "Gilbert and Sullivan on a grand scale," with elaborate sets and costumes. This production will feature a full orchestra playing Sullivan's original orchestration. Performances will take place in the modern auditorium of the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, 390 Lincoln Road, Sudbury, Massachusetts.
Produced by Graham Daley & Sara Delong and directed by Jacqueline Haney (stage) and Kathryn Denney & Lindsey Soboleski (music), Pinafore features a cast combining long-time Savoyards and talented local singers who are new to the company:
Sir Joseph Porter - Tony Parkes Captain Corcoran - Brad Amidon Ralph Rackstraw - Peter Boettcher Dick Deadeye - Marco Bonito Bill Bobstay, Botswain - Jon Saul Bob Beckett, Carpenter's Mate - Santo Mammone Josephine Corcoran - Janet Pohli Cousin Hebe - Arianna Bonito Little Buttercup - Ann Ferentz
Come and see why the Gilbert and Sullivan "operas" (nowadays we'd call them "musicals"), written over a century ago, have stayed popular through the years!
