Theorems, Proofs, Rebuttals, and Propositions: A Conference of Theoretical Theater
The conference is being held to communally research how theorizing is performed. We use the word "the-ater" to frame performance modes that propose a way of seeing, or "the-ory." We seek to enable serious consideration of the ways that performance constructs ways of knowing, but also ask how dramaturgy and other "theatrical" ways of knowing inform and sometimes restrict discursive and dialogic processes at large.
Therefore, at the core of this conference is performance. The conference begins with four plenary presentations, all in the form of performances. Each of these will be followed by a moderated discussion. Performances and texts by invited conference participants the following weekend will discuss, derail, and embody theater-as-theory. All performances and discussions are open to the public. Registration fee is $50. Individual events are open to the public for a strongly suggested donation of $10/each.
The four plenary presenters are:
Amapola Prada Reality Research Center (RRC) Kikuko Tanaka Mike Taylor
Sites include: Glasshouse Project (246 Union Avenue, Brooklyn, NY) Panoply Performance Laboratory (104 Meserole Street) and elsewhere.
