The Hudsucker Proxy
In a recreation of the world of screwball comedy, an ambitious young mailroom clerk is thrust into the world of presidency for the Hudsucker Corporation. Unaware that he is part of the nefarious plan of the corrupt board of executives.
"A critical and box-office bomb when it came out in 1994, the big business comedy-fantasy The Hudsucker Proxy looks better and smarter by the year. . . . The tone of Hudsucker is madcap, the scale epic, and the script is a pastiche of elements taken from filmmakers that the Coens adore but who wouldnt ordinarily seem compatible (indeed, most critics argued that they still werent compatible)." - Matt Zoller Seitz, Rogerebert.com
"The Hudsucker Proxy is the last film of the Coens high symbolic period, capping a stylistic trilogy that includes Millers Crossing and Barton Fink. The movies interest in the doomed repetition of history and the eternal dark side of human nature could hardly be more." - PressPlay
"Few of the Coen Brothers' films spike the vein of pure pleasure as easily. It's an irresistibly loquacious, unpredictably riotous comedy that dares you to keep up with its daffiness and doesn't give a damn whether you get left behind." - The Film Yap
"Criminally overlooked and sinfully wonderful Coen brothers comedy. Jennifer Jason Leigh is just flawless here." - efilmcritic
