Music Mentoring and Friendraising Gala at Scullers Jazz Club
Music Mentoring and Friendraising Gala at Scullers Jazz Club
Sunday, November 24, 2013
5:00 - 8 pm

Music is a language that feeds the soul, bridges all divides and brings great joy  Music brings people together in a way little else can and unites our hearts.

This event is a very special benefit, integrating the blues, jazz and Boston Minstrels communities to highlight and celebrate the importance of mentoring in the music world.  We will have speakers representing each of the three communities, and music, music, music!

While fundraising is important, "friend raising" is even more important.  This event provides a special and unusual opportunity for musicians from different communities to meet and build community, and for friends, family and music aficionados to enjoy a rich, heartwarming evening.

The financial proceeds of the event will support the Boston Minstrels' mission to bring positive emotional change to people in need (prisons, homeless shelters, VA hospitals...) through music and the Living the Blues Foundation, founded in memory of Shirley Lewis, the Regal Queen of the Blues, who died onMay 5, 2013.

James Montgomery will be speaking about mentoring in the blues world.  Bill and Bo Winiker will be speaking about mentoring in the jazz community and Boston Minstrels founder Tim McHale will speak about mentoring through music in the larger world.  Holly Harris will emcee the show.  Each speaker will also share some tunes as a centerpiece of the evening.

All speakers have a chance to play their special flavor of music...and musical guests from the blues (Alizon Lissance, Angela Warner, members of the Shirley Lewis Band and one more blues diva), and jazz (Louise Van Aarsen, Linda Marks, Bonnie MacLeod and Rebecca Parris) communitites will share a song or two.  Father-son duo Jesse and Jack Gauthier will bring us all together in community.
