The Symphonic Winds at Eastern Nazarene College, a community based concert band, will present their annual Christmas/Winter concert on Friday, 6 December 2019 at 7:30PM. The concert will be held in the Cove Fine Arts Center, located on Wendell Avenue across from the athletic fields. The Symphonic Winds is under the direction of Professor Stephen Bell, who formed this unique ensemble 17 years ago. The ensemble is comprised not only of ENC college students, but area community members and qualified high school students. Players come from many of the surrounding towns such as Weymouth, Hanover, Marshfield, Braintree, Scituate, Milton, Canton, Bridgewater, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and of course Quincy.
The program will consist of selections that incorporate a wide variety of musical styles, including Christmas selections, fanfares, concert marches, folk dances and popular medleys. Professor Bell stated that it is important to expose young players to the myriad of musical styles and to perform the works of great composers and arrangers. As an educator, Professor Bell chooses literature that will challenge the players and yet provide a great listening experience for concert attendees.
