Outcasts 2
A historical play in Bulgarian language adapted from Ivan Vazovs drama the Outcasts, Hristo Botevs personal letters and publications, and Veneta Botevas granddaughter memoirs. Hristo Botevs beautiful poetry and some famous national folklore songs are included.
The plot goes back and forth in time and place between the years 1918-1919 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and 1869-1876, in the Romanian cities Brila and Bucharest.
The aged national poet Ivan Vazov celebrates his Golden Literary anniversary in Sofia. Sitting in his office he shares life stories and personal habits, likes and dislikes. Eventually, Vazov begins to remember events that took place more than 50 years ago A group of Bulgarian political emigrants and revolutionaries, among them the poets Ivan Vazov and Hristo Botev, live as outcasts stranded in Romania during the late 1860s-70s. The plot follows their hardships and struggle, and their preparations to cross the Danube River to fight for Bulgarias liberty. More than four decades later, Botevs surviving widow, Veneta, reveals her side of the story and portrays Botev, as well as the Outcasts, through the eyes of a woman, wife and mother
