On Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the historic Riviera Theatre, the Preservation Society of Charleston will host the 66th Carolopolis Awards presented by Belmond Charleston Place and Carriage Properties. Expanding on its tradition of recognizing exemplary efforts in preservation, the Society will recognize a diverse group of Carolopolis Award-winning projects through this years program. The Carolopolis Award ceremony is the Societys marquee fundraising event celebrating the very best of preservation in Charleston! Following the awards program is a full reception, beer/wine, and live music.
The Carolopolis Award was created in 1953 to recognize outstanding achievement in historic preservation. The presentation of a Carolopolis Award recognizes extraordinary private and public efforts to maintain the historic character and authenticity of Charleston and the Lowcountry. To date, the Preservation Society has presented more than 1,400 awards in recognition of such achievement. In 2016, the Society introduced new awards for the preservation of historic interiors as well as compatible new construction.
Advance tickets are $75 for members and $100 for guests and may be purchased at www.preservationsociety.org. Ticket price is $100 at the door, subject to availability. The price of your ticket directly supports the mission of the Society. The 66th Carolopolis Awards is presented by Belmond Charleston Place and Carriage Properties.
Founded in 1920 by Susan Pringle Frost, the Preservation Society of Charleston is the oldest grassroots preservation organization in America. The Society is more resilient than ever as it enters its second century of recognizing, protecting, and advocating for the Lowcountrys historic places, while serving as a strong advocacy leader for citizens concerned about preserving Charlestons distinctive character, quality of life, and diverse neighborhoods.
