Kuss Kuss
Thirty something Berlin intellectuals Katja and Hendrik are a model couple, priding themselves in their liberalism and social conscience. When Katja encounters Saïda, a young Algerian refugee fieeing persecution in her home country and deportation from her adopted one, the older woman spots an opportunity to put her ideals to good use. She hatches a plan to keep Saïda in Germany by arranging a sham marriage to Hendrik. Despite his initial reluctance, Hendrik eventually warms to the foreigner, so much so that Katja soon finds the "perfect" balance of her relationship in danger. Equal parts romantic tragedy and comedy of manners, KussKuss received the Maverick Spirit Award at the 2005 Cinequest Film Festival and the Best Feature/Diploma Film prize at the 2005 Babelsberg Media Awards.
