Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco -EXTENDED FIVE ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES
Capitol Hill Arts Center Presents: Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco Directed by John Farrage
"Director John Farrage ... has taken on a difficult piece of theater, and availed himself with utmost professionalism without tamping one iota the passion he obviously feels for Ionesco's tangled intent."--Seattle Weekly Pick
In Eugene Ionesco's "Rhinoceros," we meet the "everyman" Berenger who lives in a lethargic haze, baffled by the ridiculous rules of society. Only Daisy, a young woman who works in Berenger's office, seems capable of evoking a passionate response from him. Suddenly, on a quiet Sunday morning, a pair of Rhinoceri inexplicably rampage through the town. It soon becomes apparent that townspeople are transforming into Rhinoceri. While exploring the absurdity of conformity as well as the futility of being an individual, Ionesco creates a tragic-comic parable which rings true in these times of moral perplexity and blind nationalism.
