Sita and Friends - presented by Gualala Arts LocalEyes Series
Sita Milchev and her singing friends are bringing a Broadway Cabaret style show to the Gualala Arts Center Coleman Auditorium on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23, 2013. Sita, an international vocalist, has been putting together musical shows for over 35 years. Her forté has been putting together and performing in Broadway Cabaret style shows at the Arts Center for the past ten years.
The shows start at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The cost is a mere $20 per ticket; $5 more the day of the show if there happen to be any seats available. The cast consists of Teo Ariola, Haidi Calkins, Cassy Grossman, Sam Parsons and Sita Milchev. Accompanying Sita & Friends is Don Krieger, Mendonoma's keyboardist extraordinaire, along with the amazing local group, the Chris Doering Trio.
From Stephen Sondheim to Richard Maltby Jr. and David Shire, the Broadway songs in this show will be memorable to anyone listening to or singing them. They have pizzazz, emotion and will make you laugh all at the same time. Performances will consist of songs from 20 Broadway musicals from 1962 to the present.
Putting together music from different composers makes for a very eclectic show. Whether it's music from "Little Shop of Horrors" or "A Chorus Line" this show has something for everyone.
"There are so many beautiful songs in the various Broadway shows both old and new that it was difficult for me to choose just the right ones for the performers," says Sita. "I have chosen melodies that might bring up memories for you, or that you may have as a favorite. Some of the music, solos, duets and trios are from revues, not full Broadway shows. Revues usually have songs that don't fit into a story line that would make a Broadway show work. They're beautiful on their own; hence they work in a Cabaret setting such as the one we're performing as Sita and Friends."
Sita has found some really fine trios for the women in the show. Trios for women are few and far between on the Broadway stage. Trios that include men and women are even rarer. These songs are difficult to sing for the performer, but they make them sound so easy on the ear.
Sita and Friends have done all the work all you have to do is sit back and enjoy!
The Martini Bar will be open and there will be goodies available at intermission.
