Chanticleer
Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Green Center for the Performing Arts, Kresge Auditorium
The multiple Grammy Award-winning San Francisco-based ensemble Chanticleer has a special affinity for sumptuous repertoire, ranging from intimate chamber pieces to grandly celebratory double chorus works in 12 parts. Called "the world's reigning male chorus" by The New Yorker magazine and named the 2008 Ensemble of the year by Musical America, the choir's renowned expertise in interpreting Renaissance music promises to make this program an especially satisfying showcase of its core repertoire. Among the many composers to be represented is the great pre-Baroque genius Claudio Monteverdi.
