Scholars Working Group - Exhibiting Jews
Our first meeting was electrifying! Many thanks to you all! We will convene on Friday, Nov. 15, 9:30-12, at the Center for Jewish History, when two of our members will present on their museum experiences:
Ed Bleiberg, Brooklyn Museum, "Iconoclasm and Identity in Ancient Egypt. Ed's recent exhibition, "Striking Power: Iconoclasm in Ancient Egypt," is reviewed here: (reviewed at net/article/artsy-editorial-egyptian-statues-broken-noses)
Ena Heller, Rollins College (formerly director of MOBIA: The Museum of Biblical Art [of blessed memory]), "Reluctant Partners: Art, Religion and the Museum of Biblical Art."
Ed and Ena have each had illuminating experiences within the museum environment, which shed light on our joint project in fascinating ways.
