Alone, Together: Brightwell, Henchman and Moran with special guest Jeffrey Koch
Artichoke is proud to present three of our favorite Portland songwriters in concert. Kelly Brightwell, Michael Henchman and Woody Moran, along with guest guitarist Jeffrey Koch, bring their fine vocals and musicianship together to play songs written individually as well as collaboratively, with perhaps a few old favorites thrown in where we can all sing along.
Kelly Brightwell sounds like Neko Case meets Patty Griffin, or Jonatha Brooke with a dash of Over the Rhine. Producer Rob Stroup says "Kelly writes songs that are evolved, with themes that are literary, meditative, and explore parallels between our lives and nature. She sings with the smoothness of Sarah McLachlan, but with a bit more Americana grit and charm." Her songs have received critical acclaim by the Tucson Folk Festival, the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association, the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and the Just Plain Folks Awards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeZsORz5OwA
Hailing from the evergreen Pacific Northwest and well traveled since childhood, Michael Henchmans imagery-rich songwriting reveals a deep-seated fascination with a wider cinematic landscape, of lifes side roads that often beckon on the quest for connective meaning that we all share. His songs have been described as "progressive folk mixed with redwoods, diners, grassy plains, a dash of longing, and a little road dust for texture." He has won awards at the Juniper Jam Music Festival, Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, Smoky Mountains Songwriter Festival, and others. "Pure Americana magic the way it used to be, full of cautionary tales and a passion for life." - Gashouse Radio.
Woody Moran is a singer/songwriter with a truly unique sound. Woody weaves excellent guitar skills with crisp, laid back vocals. His lyrics tell stories and hes got a knack for catchy melodies. His talents are especially evident in a live setting. After charting at #1 an unprecedented 42 weeks on Broadjams Folk-Rock Chart, Moran was one of five international finalists in the 2008 International Singer Songwriter Associations Best Rock Song of the Year contest with Tu-Toned Stranger. In 2010 his song It Will Come Back to You was chosen for a compilation CD for Adult Contemporary Radio Programmers. In 2016, his EP "Sitting In Aztec Chairs" received a glowing review from Music Connection Magazine. https://vimeo.com/144461826
