What The Canadian Reviews Say: -3.5 Stars!!! True to life, simple and sweet . . . I was happy for the ambiguity. Lifes like that - NATIONAL POST
-Warm, well-acted, compelling . . . Sponheimer delivers her all - GLOBE AND MAIL
- Strong, honest, touching, incredibly sweet. Sponheimer really lets loose, and she absolutely kills it, bringing a pathos and somewhat pathetic and gutting performance that is both touching and horrifying . . . a loving, passionate breakdown, and its difficult to watch. Well acted, shot beautifully . . . very poignant moments that will stick with me for quite some time. - IN THE SEATS
Full Synopsis April returns home to Toronto after travelling and working abroad for several years to help her sister Sara care for their mother. Upon April's return, she literally unearths old family secrets in the backyard that threaten the gentle balance of home. Sara, who is studying the music of French composer Erik Satie, befriends a homeless man Erik who may have a connection to her mothers romantic past, while April equivocates on a marriage proposal from her long-distance boyfriend whom she met on her travels. The story culminates on the eve of their mother's birthday dinner, when Aprils boyfriend arrives unannounced from Argentina and Saras homeless friend shows up for the celebration.
"April in Autumn", a dramatic first feature film written, directed and produced by veteran television director Warren Sulatycky, is a story of (re)discovering ones place and identity within family. April in Autumn stars Caitlyn Sponheimer, Elizabeth Stuart-Morris, Sandra Pascuzzi, and Mike Sniezek, and Warren Sulatycky. Produced by Raging River Pictures with the financial participation of Telefilm Canada.
