When author Sheila OConnor attempted to uncover buried secrets about her Minneapolis family, she discovered the little-known history of incarcerating adolescent girls from throughout Minnesota, including Hennepin County, for immorality at the Minnesota Home School for Girls in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. In her new book, "Evidence of V: A Novel in Fragments, Facts and Fictions," OConnor brings to light this silenced story, which affected thousands of Minnesota families through the decades and involved corporeal punishment, solitary confinement, state-mandated breastfeeding, and parole assignments as domestic servants in private homes. Hear about this research, her ongoing work to bring this history to light, and how this lost past remains relevant to girls and women today. She will also sign copies of her new novel.
Ticket includes Museum admission.
