2019 Holiday Lamplight Celebration Tours
Join us for our Annual Lamplight Celebration Tours as we discover the ghosts of the past, present and future.
What if the former occupants of the homes at Heritage Square needed to learn the true meaning of the Holiday Spirit? We answer this question with an immersive experience of a fictionalized re-telling of Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. The ghost of Wallace Woodworth finds his former business partner William Hayes Perry at the home of Richard Shaw, a cabinetmaker who works for Mr. William Perry. Mr. Perry has burst into the home, interrupting their party to scold Mr. Shaw for leaving work early, and to tell him he will not have Christmas Day off. Woodworth tells Perry he will be visited by 3 spirits and sends him off into the night to find the first of them. On the back porch of the Hale House, Perry (and our guests) meet the Ghost of Christmas Present. The Ghost takes Perry and guests into the Hale Boarding House, where Bessie is complaining loudly about how Mr. Perry, who holds her mortgage, is threatening to foreclose. One of her boarders is Perry's nephew, Fred, who tries to defend his uncle. Bessie and her boarders worry about what would happen to them if the house were lost where would they go, what would they do? Perry leaves the Hale House in search of the next ghost. Perry & guests then meet the Ghost of Christmas Past in front of the old Perry House. They go inside to witness a Christmas Eve ball, the first one the Perry family hosted in what was their new house. We see a younger Mr. Perry, younger (and alive) Wallace Woodworth, and their families and friends. There is discussion about how devoted Perry is to his young family, but that they can see him slipping away, to focus more and more of his time and energy on the business. Old Perry says that he does not want to see anymore, but the Ghost of Christmas Past says he has one more ghost to see. The Ghost of Christmas Future shows Perry the future of Los Angeles a place unrecognizable from the places that he has spent his life building. Practically nothing remains of the Los Angeles he helped to build, not his home, not any building or structure that he remembers and Perry has his revelation he wants to help build a Los Angeles that respects its history, he wants to rebuild his relationships with his family and his employees. He rushes out to tell Mr. Shaw that he doesn't have to go to work on Christmas, and he'll double his salary!
