Arte y Pasion MANTAS DE LUZ "BLANKETS OF LIGHT"
Arte y PasiĆ³ns MANTAS DE LUZ THE EQUINOX GALLERY Doors open 2pm Performance begins at 3pm; duration of Performance: Approximately 1.5 hours Reception before and after performance with opportunity to meet the artists.
MANTAS DE LUZ is a project dedicated to those who have to endure life in detention centers at our border, something that is currently happening in our backyard, much like the concentration camps of 1942 Germany. The project refers symbolically to the aluminum foil blankets; what purports as a symbol of protection becomes a symbol of exposure.
Other elements paint the picture of this present day world, calling us to remember our connection to eachother. Silver Blanket. The story of refuge in blankets of aluminum foil. The struggle of irony when refuge should be soft darkness. Refuge instead is embodied in a crackling light that reflects back the fear, wrapping as a sheltering insult. Inscription upon stone gives way to words in cyberspace. Ideology is changed quietly and subversively from the outside in. One person sits in the shadows, in the darkness, typing on a typewriter. From this moment, inscriptions are changed, philosophy is changed, we are turned against each other. The Red Thead. All Tribes of the World are woven together with a Red Thread. The Red Thread is a thread of music, a thread of blood, a thread of food, a thread of mud. Genetic memory of trauma, love, trials, effort, pain and joy is propagated from generation to generation. The ripple through the pond touches all of us. Our connections with eachother run through time as well as space. When we are separated we are weakened. But when we accept our connections, we rise.
Special thanks to Alejandro Sifuentes and the family at the Equinox Gallery for hosting this event and for all your support of the arts and the art of flamenco.
