LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO: CD Release Concert with THE JULIO BOTTI QUARTET
The popular monthly LATIN JAZZ @ MONDO music series brings to you a special CD release concert of the new and exciting JAZZ TANGO FUSION recording by accomplished 2 time Latin Grammy nominated saxophonist JULIO BOTTI and his group on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 8:00pm. Latin Grammy nominated saxophonist and composer Julio Botti and his quartet have broken new ground in this ambitious musical journey. Blending masterpieces from Astor Piazzolla and Pablo Ziegler with several of Bottis own compositions, the album Jazz Tango Fusion is an edgy and colorful reimagining of modern Tango, with equal parts of modern Jazz. The quartet features Tiago Michelin on drums, Andrew Baird on guitar and Eduardo Withrington on keyboard. Teatro Sí brings to you this cultural opportunity at the stage at the unique & cozy MONDO venue, located at 426 Springfield Avenue in downtown Summit, NJ. Julio Botti (saxophone, clarinet and flute player) was born in Bell Ville in Cordoba, Argentina. In 1996 he graduated from "Escuela de Musica Popular La Colmena" in Cordoba, Argentina, and went on to study classical saxophone in Cuba at "La Escuela Nacional de Arte de La Habana". From Cuba he moved to Madrid, Spain where he recorded various albums and took to teaching in various parts of Europe and South America. In 2007 he records CD demo South American Roots featuring percussionist and drummer Quintino Cinalli (Esperanza Spalding) and pianist Leo Genovese (Esperanza Spalding). This project gains the attention of Maestro Pablo Ziegler (pianist to the late and legendary Astor Piazzolla). In 2009 Julio tours internationally with the Pablo Ziegler Trio as a guest saxophonist. In 2010 he is called by Sony Classical to record saxophone for opera singer Erwin Schrott in his album entitled Rojo Tango. He also performs at Symphony Space in New York City as well as at the Mondavi Center in Davis, CA in Maestro Pablo Zieglers Beyond Tango tour. In 2011 Julio begins recording his own New Tango project under the direction of Maestro Pablo Ziegler. Julio Botti was nominated for a Latin Grammy at the 14th and 17th annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Tango Album for Tango Nostalgias in 2013 & Sax to Tango in 2016. He also released the popular Tango Blues album in 2018 to rave reviews. Julio Botti has taken his love of South American rhythms and modern jazz and created an electrifying new quartet that fuses the ethnic rhythms of the southern cone with jazz. Most recently he has also been dedicating his time to NYC public schools as a woodwind teacher. Concert tickets are priced at $20 in advance / $25 at the door. Reservations & info are also available by calling the Teatro Si box office at 908-301-9496 or purchase tickets in person at MONDO in Summit. We recommend enjoying a fine meal at one of several fine restaurants in downtown Summit before or after the show. Event proceeds benefit programming efforts at Teatro Si, a 501(c) 3 not for profit organization
