Celtic Community Night with Stringed Migration Trio
Connecting Celtic Appreciators in Portland PORTLAND CELTIC COMMUNITY NIGHT Second Wednesday every month.
The goal is simple: Create a stronger, vibrant, and more unified community of Celtic musicians, dancers, and artists, and appreciators within the Portland, Oregon region. By hosting evenings that include performances by local and regional bands and artists, followed by an open traditional music and dance session, we can help foster a fun and inclusive environment where everyone can appreciate and participate in Celtic culture.
Stringed Migration is a Portland, OR, based combo that performs a lush synthesis of international roots music with a twist of jazz. The band features a cast of musicians whose diverse backgrounds touch upon Latin music, Balkan music, Americana, rock, MediƦval music, classical Indian music, Western classical music, and jazz, as well as traditional Irish and Scottish fare. The idea, says founder Elizabeth Nicholson, is to allow everyone in the band to draw from the full spectrum of their experience, rather than conforming to a rigidly defined idiom. The resulting sound pays true homage to the American melting pot, revealing technical mastery, nuance, spontaneity and heart. The Stringed Migration Trio is: Elizabeth Nicholson on vocals, harps, and guitar; Bob Soper on bouzouki, fiddle, vocals and guitar; and Rob Barrick on acoustic bass and Scottish bagpipes.
