Silencing Stigma, Reclaiming Life 3.0
CIRCA PINTIG breaks the silence on mental health & social justice struggles
Chicago, IL - Circa Pintig, the Filipino American community-based theater company opens its 28th anniversary theater season with Silencing Stigma, Reclaiming Life 3.0, a collection of Filipino American & Asian American experience, the play tackles difficult topics but brings to light the beauty that comes when stigma is silenced and self is reclaimed in harmony with the community. The play features original scripts developed through a drama workshop conducted with students of Dr. Rooshey Hasnains class on Mental Health, Asian Americans and Community Engagement at UIC. Through the drama workshop, students transformed their recorded transcriptions of field interviews with community storytellers into dramatic scripts. Together with excerpts from other plays written by Liza Magtoto, Lani Montreal, and Conrad Panganiban, Silencing Stigma gives voice to unspoken thoughts and emotions in a dramatic forum that aims for community healing and positive reflection.
This production brings together new and resident Circa Pintig actors and production staff sharing their time and commitment to create a dialogue about a topic not typically discussed at dinner table talk. There is a Q & A and community consultation after each performance. Directed by Cat Gleason, the play goes onstage on November 15, 16, 17 and 22, 23, 24, Fridays/Saturdays @ 8p and Saturdays/Sundays @ 4 pm at The Klausner Auditorium (within Nazareth Family Center) 1127 N.
