In Flight - Gabe Terracciano
"Adventurous, but always melodic...Terracciano plays with Joe Venuti's grace and Zbigniew Seifert's swagger." - Ian Patterson, All About Jazz
Terracciano shows offjaunty Bob Wills-style western swing, airy Stephane Grappelli-esque phrasing, lots of sabretoothed Romany riffs, and stark blues as well. - New York Music Daily
Originally from Portland, Maine, Gabriel Terracciano is an award-winning violinist and composer currently residing in Brooklyn, New York. Classically trained from a young age, Gabe has spent his career focusing on playing the violin in a variety of non-classical genres, including jazz, bluegrass, western swing, rock, and hip hop, among others. After finishing his undergraduate studies in Boston at Tufts University and the New England Conservatory in 2016, he moved to New York City, where he completed his masters degree in jazz studies at NYU.
In 2018, he joined the two-time Grammy award winning Turtle Island String Quartet, and has been featured with the quartet on NPRs Jazz Night in America in collaboration with pianist Cyrus Chestnut. Additionally, he is a member of numerous New York-based groups including the Avalon Jazz Band, The Hot Toddies, The Harmolodic String Band, Cait and the Critters, and Wet Electric, along with leading his own trios and quartets.
Gabe has received multiple awards throughout his career, including winning First Prize in the 2018 Freshgrass Fiddle Competition and Third Prize in the 2018 Zbigniew Seifert Jazz Violin Competition. He has played throughout the United States as well as Internationally, including at the Aspen Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Freshgrass Festival, and throughout Ghana as a member of the Ghanaian National Symphony Orchestra.
His first album of original music, In Flight, will be officially released on January 31, 2020, and will be available through Red Piano Records. This recording is Terraccianos debut as a leader, and includes an all-star band of musicians playing his original compositions. The compositions on this album display how many different styles of music can coexist in the same space, especially when brought together by superb players, a willingness to collaborate, and a dedication to the craft of what it means to be a musician.
Tickets are $12.00 in advance and $15.00 at the door.
