Lo Kai Comedy with Mike Donovan
Comedy returns to the Lo Kai Restaurant, 1655 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Saturday, November 16 with Boston Legend Mike Donovan and a lineup of top Boston comedians including Dave Rattigan (Sirius Satellite Radio), Jason Merrill, and the 2019 "Funniest Person in Massachusetts" contest winner Liam McGuirk. The show is produced by Scamps Comedy, and showtime is 8 p.m., with doors open at 7. Tickets are $20. Dinner may be purchased separately.
Donovan was a founder of the Boston Comedy Scene and has long been one of the most creative and funniest headliners in the country. The South Boston native works the top clubs in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and has been featured on The NESN Comedy All-Stars, ESPN's SportsCenter, Fox's Best Damn Sports Show Period, and the Showtime network. He was featured in the documentary When Standup Stood Out. He's also the author of 101 Stories of American History, available at Amazon.com and at the show.
As an older, divorced dad with a young daughter, Rattigan has gained new perspective at the cost of sleep, patience and logical thought. That's just one area the veteran Boston comedian covers in his act, which he's performed at such diverse venues as the Cape Cod Melody Tent, Laugh Boston, Fenway Park, bowling alleys, M.I.T., The Square One Mall food court, hospitals, libraries, and office parks. His CD received airplay on Sirius Satellite Radio and other stations, he appeared multiple times on the syndicated "Steve Katsos Show," and hes acted in commercials and independent movies. He also runs Scamps Comedy Productions, which produces live comedy shows for fundraisers, private parties, and public shows.
Merrill is the latest from a line of strong comedians from the great city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. He has impressed audiences with his streetwise style and good-natured exuberance. Drawing upon his own experiences, he finds the funny in everyday life. He has shared the stage with accomplished comedians such as Juston McKinney, Lenny Clarke, Christine Hurley, Joe Yannetty, and Steve Sweeney.
McGurk, winner of the Funniest Person in Massachusetts Contest in 2019, is known for his laid-back demeanor and cerebral, creative material. He hosts a weekly show in Boston, and has performed at Thunderfest, the Cape Fear Comedy Festival and Rogue Island Comedy Festival. He's a former Comic-in-Residence at The Comedy Studio in Somerville, and a favorite in Boston showcases. He describes himself as a gentle man with the temperament of a small purebred dog. That is, he's initially standoffish due to anxiety, but warms up once he's been fed and petted.
