Senior Policy Consultant for the CA State Assembly, Steve Wertheim, will lead this engaging conversation about state housing policy.

SPEAKERS
Senator Nancy Skinner Elected in November 2016, state Senator Skinner represents Californias 9th Senate District, which includes the cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville, El Sobrante, Hercules, Kensington, Oakland, Piedmont, Pinole, Richmond, Rodeo, San Leandro, and San Pablo.
Senator Skinner serves on eight committees and is chair of the Public Safety Committee and the Public Safety Budget Committee. She has authored two landmark criminal justice reform laws, opening up police misconduct records for the first time in 40 years and overhauling Californias out-dated and unfair felony murder rule. She also has authored laws to address Californias housing crisis, protect the environment and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
A graduate of UC Berkeley with a BS and an MA, she began her public service in 1984 as the first and only student to be elected to the Berkeley City Council.
She is a 40-plus year resident of Berkeley.
Senator Scott Wiener Elected in November 2016, Senator Wiener represents District 11 in the California State Senate. District 11 includes all of San Francisco, Broadmoor, Colma, and Daly City, as well as portions of South San Francisco.
In the Senate, Senator Wiener works to make housing more affordable, invest in our transportation systems, increase access to healthcare, support working families, meaningfully address climate change and the impacts of drought, reform our criminal justice system, reduce gun violence, reduce Californias alarmingly high poverty rate, and safeguard and expand the rights of all communities, including immigrants and the LGBT community.
Senator Wiener grew up in New Jersey, the son of small business owners, and attended public school. He received a bachelors degree from Duke University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He spent a year in Chile on a Fulbright Scholarship doing historical research. He has lived in San Franciscos Castro neighborhood for over 21 years.
Steve Wertheim Senior Consultant at Ca. State Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development
Mr. Wertheim works as a policy consultant in Sacramento where he is intimately involved on policy matters relating to land use and housing. Prior to his work in Sacramento, Mr. Wertheim was a Principal Planner with the San Francisco Planning Department, with a focus on long-range plans including the Central SoMa, Japantown Cultural Heritage, and Eastern Neighborhoods Plans.
Mr. Wertheim received a BA from Duke University and a Masters Decree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley.
