Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray - Dark Day
22nd Annual Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray
December 14th, 2019
9 am to 4:30 pm
Start the day at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center. After a short introduction, you will carpool with your group to the Dark Day area, near Camptonville.
This is a longer drive from Shady Creek but it is part of the unique tanoak and madrone ecosystem in the Bullards Bar area. There are some steep hills. Try getting off trail to see undisturbed fungi. Edible varieties found in past: Lions Mane, Hedgehog, Matsutake, and Queen Bolete. Please do not disturb rare fungi species known to occur here.
Bring a bagged lunch and be prepared to walk in the damp woods. Also useful: collection basket, waxed paper bags, knife, and hand lens. Please carpool if possible. This is a rain or shine event.
Following the collection foray, we will come together at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center for identification discussions, fungi related presentations, educational workshops, and there will be wild mushroom soups and other wild crafted and delicious food for sale.
