Green Horsekeeping Farm Tour - Shady Springs Farm
Tour a Portland horse boarding facility that has made great efforts to practice stewardship and implement practices that keep water clean. Shady Springs Farm (www.shadyspringsfarm.com) began working on their conservation plan in 1987 and today they offer some excellent management ideas that you can implement at home. Participants will have the opportunity to see rotational grazing, multiple sacrifice area/winter paddock designs, techniques for controlling runoff, manure composting and management, discuss different fencing types, drainage, and pest management.
Bring your family & friends and questions you have about your property. Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring a water bottle and wear sturdy boots as we'll be in the field.
The Small Acreage Program, co-sponsored by Washington State University Clark County Extension and Clark County Environmental Services Clean Water Program, will lead the tour with Karin Hunt, owner of Shady Springs Farm. The tour begins at 12 pm and runs until 2 pm and participants meet at the property in Portland.
WSU Extension programs are available to all without discrimination. Persons requiring special accommodations should call WSU Clark County Extension at (360) 397-6060 ext. 0 at least two weeks prior to the event.
