Joey Henry's Dirty Sunshine Club

Joey Henrys Dirty Sunshine Club songs speak to the emotional burdens we all carry and give hope that we can all leave the hurt and the pain in the past. As he says, life is all about unconditional love and thats what he shares with listeners of his music and admirers of his photography.

Joey Henry has been writing songs for and touring with The Calamity Cubes! out of Wichita, Kansas, for 12 years now. A founding member, he and the band have toured nationally and in Europe. He also participated in the Old Canes (Appleseed Cast side project) album Feral Harmonic, released on Saddle Creek Records. He is a founding band of the Muddy Roots Music Festival in Cookeville, Tenn., having played it annually since its inception.

The Dirty Sunshine Club brings an eclectic mix of styles and instruments to create a unique auditory experience. As far as his songwriting, he says: "The music is medicine and we are all making and taking it together. Theres a banjo, guitar and ukulele but it isnt bluegrass. The only thing traditional about these stories is the heart from which they stem."

Henry is also a creative photographer who brings together his love of visual art with his music in his performances and in his life. His photography resides under the same umbrella of storytelling as his songs. As he says, "They all live on the same cul-de-sac of wherever stories come from. I just find them there and assist in introducing them to the world."
