Murmuration
Be part of a mass movement event outside in the grounds of Torre Abbey during Wavelength! Over half an hour you will move alongside a large group of people following gentle prompts, inspiration and instruction through your silent disco headset. No dance experience is needed and all are welcome. You decide which route you want to follow (red, green or blue) and you can book to come back and try each route if you want to across Friday and Saturday evenings.
Murmuration captures the wonder of being part of a collective experience that is bigger than you. Taking inspiration from the starlings that gather in our skies in November to form a collective and to communicate with each other, choreographer Suzie West has collaborated with Sound Communities to create a unique collective experience that you can choose to be part of, or to watch, or both.
Using silent disco technology, a large flock of over 100 people move in tune with each other, following instruction and inspiration from a soundscore that weaves together snippets of natural sound, vocals, lost dialect and fragments of music. The journey takes in both intimate and open spaces within the grounds of Torre Abbey and beyond, inviting people to communicate with each other through mass movement across distance, and to move together as a flock, revealing the secret algorithms that underpin the movement of starlings in a murmuration.
Murmuration is a playful invitation to find connection and exchange with others, and to get on the same wavelength, whilst having a lot of fun
Suitable for all. Duration approx 35 mins.
