NINE
Sweeping the 1982 Tonys with five awards, including Best Musical and Best Musical Score, and the 2003 Tonys with two including, Best Revival of a Musical, Nine sparkles with invention. Composer/lyricist Maury Yeston has written a glorious score, creating one of the most engaging musicals of all time. Based on Federico Fellini's masterpiece "8 1/2", Arthur Kopits brilliant book examines an Italian film directors life in comic crisis. Suffering from writers block, while balancing three lovers, a disgruntled producer and his adoring fans, Guido Contini is pulled between youthful impulses and adult responsibilities. New to MSA, Talli Jackson provides extraordinary choreography. Jackson was a member of the Bill T. Jones Dance Company for eight years prior to coming to share his talents with MSA. Musical Director, Scott DeTurk, provides his usual magic with vocals and orchestrations. The cast of 38 includes Morgan Hunt as Guido, the Italian director in crisis. Michael Feinstein National Finalist, Lily Bogas, plays his devoted wife Luisa and Holly Hogan his mother. Kasey Hernandez sizzles as his mistress, Carla, and Lily Alva belts out Sarraghina, the sinner on the beach. Sabine Orthwein is Liliane La Fleur his combatant producer, with Skylar Reynolds as her henchwoman. Sam Sutton antagonizes as his critic and Julia Gibbs inspires as Guidos ideal woman. 4th grader at Brookside Elementary School, Lucian Crane has been recruited to play Young Guido. Bob Kaliski and Ray Kaliski continue their grand tradition to be Executive Producers.
They are dedicating their run to the memory of Tony Winner Liliane Montevecchi, who originated the role of Liliane La Fleur on Broadway.
