Science: Russell Shorto: 'Descartes Bones'
Russell Shorto is the author of the bestselling The Island at the Center of the World and a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine. His latest book, Descartes Bones: A Skeletal History of the Conflict Between Faith and Religion, reflects the current conflict over science vs. religion, describing how it all got started with the publication of Rene Descartes', Discourse on the Method over 350 years ago. Decartes famous phrase cogito ergo sum, "I think therefore I am," is one of the most influential ideas in human history and is the foundation of the scientific method. Presented as part of the Seattle Science Lectures, with University Book Store.
