Comm Lead Orientation 2013
Comm Lead Orientation will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM in the Active Learning Classroom located in the Odegaard Undergraduate Library on the University of Washington Campus.
For those driving, there is parking in the Central Garage under Red Square. Please follow this link for more information: https://www.washington.edu/facilities/transportation/commuterservices/parking
For those bussing, many busses are convenient to the UW campus. And for those biking, there are bike racks outside the library. If you're flying in, your on your own (though we don't recommend landing on Red Square)!
Orientation includes a chance to hear from the COM Department Chair David Domke, a welcome from Comm Lead Director Hanson Hosein, and a variety of activities that are geared to familiarize you with the campus and the programincluding the ever-popular student panel where as the new cohort, you get to fire questions as some of our seasoned Comm Lead students. And did we mention there will be great food?
Speaking of food, for those with food restrictions, we strive to accommodate every person's individual dietary requests. When you register for orientation, you will have an opportunity to communicate your food needs. We will be provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.
Please note that we will have photographers at orientation taking headshots of each of you when you first arrive on the 14th. We ask that you wear whatever you feel comfortable in. The Comm Lead program will keep the photos on file but you will also have access to these headshots after they have been taken for your own use.

MORE ABOUT THE ACTIVE LEARNING CLASSROOM:
Located on the first floor, the active learning classroom is an interactive, interdisciplinary space where information and technology are combined to facilitate scholarship. Educators are provided with a unique opportunity to explore how space and technology can promote student learning. Active learning classrooms support case-based learning, guided inquiry, peer learning and just-in-time learning, all of which are increasingly the basis for how classes are taught. Student-centered pedagogy is promoted and students are encouraged to build on prior understanding to solve problems, critically evaluate solutions and create new knowledge.
