WSU Food Systems Team Gathering - Food Lifeline, Seattle
WSU Food Systems Team Members! We are excited to invite you to a team gathering in the Seattle area on November 19th! This year in lieu of a full blown team retreat, the Food Systems Program is supporting two regional team gatherings. We had a gathering in Spokane at the end of July and the next chance is coming up!
We'll be gathering at Food Lifeline (815 S 96th St, Seattle WA 98108) for a team meeting in the morning beginning at 10 am and we'll all get to participate in a sort from 1:30 to 4:00pm! This is an excellent chance to witness the amazing work that Food Lifeline is doing as they rescue millions of pounds of nutritious food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants, and retailers that would otherwise go to waste. 13,450 volunteers visit the Hunger Solution Center annually to help sort and repack this nourishing food. Food Lifeline then distributes it to more than 300 food banks, shelters, and meal programs throughout Western Washington, providing the equivalent of 116,000 meals every day for hungry children, adults, and seniors.
There is also a chance to continue on to the Washington Women in the Food Systems meeting this same evening! This meeting will be happening in close proximity, at the Northwest Harvest SODO Community Market (1915 4th Ave S, Seattle WA 98134)and will also include a tour of this facility.
Come join us! This is a great opportunity for team members to gather and participate in a volunteer food sort afternoon. Lunch will be provided. Please be sure to make your own reservations for overnight accommodations if necessary. There are limited number of scholarships available to cover lodging or travel cost reimbursement, please get in contact with Nicole Witham (nwitham@wsu.edu) to request a scholarship.
