Song of the Sheperd - OCC Winter Concert
On Saturday, December 7th and Sunday December 8th, the Ojai Community Chorus will present its annual Winter Concert. The title for 2019 is Song of the Shepherd. The program will include a broad spectrum of holiday music from I Love the Winter Weather to selections from Handels Messiah.
The centerpiece of the program will be selections from Considering Matthew Shepard. Audiences describe this work as brilliant, powerful, innovative, dazzling, and gripping. After its debut in 2016 The Washington Post stated, Considering Matthew Shepard demonstrates musics capacity to encompass, transform and transcend tragedy. Powerfully cathartic, it leads us from horror and grief to a higher understanding of the human condition, enabling us to endure. NOTE: This portion of the program is based on mature subject matter and may not be suitable for younger children.
Director Connie Woodson has an outstanding history of conducting the Ojai Community Chorus for over fifteen years. The accompanying musicians are James Antunez, John Boyd, and Chris Kimbler.
The performances are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Ojai United Methodist Church at 120 Church Road.
