Ye Vagabonds are a sibling duo BrĂan and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn from Carlow, fifty miles south-west of Dublin. Really hard to describe how impactful their sound has been. On the one hand its retro, bringing to mind the too-often used comparison to Paul Brady and Andy Irvine, but its also new and edgy, with a punch like that of fellow label musicians, Lankum, and Lisa O'Neil.
While the brothers have frequently collaborated with these groups, according to a recent review on UK Folk radio, "YV has a brand of folk music that defies alignment with any wider musical movement. Their aesthetic is more rural than that of their peers, and their sound often has a subtler, more haunted quality. In their hands, even the most familiar of songs feels as if it has been freshly prised from the earth."
Honestly, I can not recommend this night of music more highly. Seriously.
Opening for Ye Vagabonds will be Adam Agee and Jon Sousa whose journey through the Irish idiom on fiddle, guitar, and tenor banjo, has been enchanting listeners on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean for over a decade. Adam & Jon put down musical roots in County Clare, where they lived together, and now make frequent visits. Their connection to their instruments and the transcendent energy in their music is guaranteed to captivate and uplift audiences of all ages. Check them out below...
