Syrinx Concerts Toronto December 1,2019
American cellist Zlatomir Fung has just won First Prize at the prestigious 2019 Tchaikovsky Cello Competition!!! Zlatomir, who is of Bulgarian-Chinese parentage, also recently captured First Prize at the 2018 Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition. Zlatomir began his studies of the cello at the age of three. He was the first prize winner at the 2016 George Enescu International Cello Competition, the 2015 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players, the 2014 Stulberg International String Competition, and the 2014 Irving Klein International Competition. He was selected as a 2016 U.S. Presidential Scholar for the Arts and was awarded the 2016 Landgrave von Hesse Prize at the Kronberg Academy Cello Masterclasses. He is a winner of the 2017 Astral National Auditions and the 2017 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.
Mai Tategami made her Orchestra debut performing with Maestro Yutaka Sado when she was 14. She has won prizes at numerous competitions, winning the ABC Music Audition, 1st Prize at the Children Violin Competition (Japan), 3rd prize at the SMF International Music Competition (U.S), Special Prize at the Japan Mozart International Competition, and 2nd Prize at the Matsukata Music Award. She received the Dosekai Award from the Tokyo University of the Arts when she graduated there in 2011. More recently, Mai won the first edition of the Orford Music Prize and the FondationYehudi Menuhin Prize in Canada. She also received the Special Prize at the Johannes Brahms International Competition and Ibolyka-Gyarfas Violin Competition (Germany) and the Finalist Prize at the International Violin Competition Andrea Postacchini.
Canadian pianist Jean-Luc Therrien has stood out in many competitions such as the Luigi Zanuccoli International Music Competition (Chamber Music Prize), the Mauro Paolo Monopoli Prize International Piano Competition, (3rd prize and audience prize), the Canadian Music Competitions Stepping Stone (3rd prize). He won the Soloists Competition of the Trois-Rivières Music Conservatory four times and consequently performed several concerts with the conservatorys orchestra as well as the Orchestre Symphonique de Trois-Rivières. Jean-Luc was also awarded several prizes, including the Gilles-Gauthier Excellence Award, the Wilfrid-Pelletier Excellence Award and the Governor General of Canadas Academic medal, as well as a grant from the Canadian Council for the Arts, which allowed him to pursue postgraduate studies in Austria in 2016-17.
