Author Event with Georgette Driscoll
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Georgette Driscoll was born and raised in the historic town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of her earliest childhood memories is seeing Dallas for the first time. Mesmerized by the big city, she told her mother she would one day move there and work in one of the tall buildings. Some twenty years later, she got that chance and moved to Dallas for her position as a Program Manager with FedEx Office, one of the many fortune 500 companies based in the Big D. Georgette is a life-long-learner with a passion for historic preservation and travel. Upon arriving in Dallas with her husband, John, and her two sons, Jack and Walt, the exploration began. In 2015, she published her first book Are We There Yet? Dallas which provides an extensive guide to family fun in the big city. Wanting to peel back the layers even more, she started to explore the history of the city. She is honored to share all she learned and suggestions for all you can explore in her second book, A History Lovers Guide to Dallas.
ABOUT THE BOOK Don't let the drawl fool you--Dallas boasts a dynamic history full of explosive growth. The cityscape itself seems eager to measure up to the outsized personalities that forged the town's identity. A sixty-seven-and-a-half-foot-tall giraffe statue greets visitors to the Dallas Zoo, while guests exiting the Joule Hotel encounter the gaze of a thirty-foot eyeball. A colossal Pegasus glows above it all from its perch on top of the Magnolia Petroleum building. Subtler storylines also thread their way through the forest of glass and steel, from the jazz of Deep Ellum alleyways to the peaceful paths of the Katy Trail. Author Georgette Driscoll looks beyond the inscriptions for the events that shaped Dallas into the city it is today.
