K.C. Moaners
"Jug band music originated in Louisville, Kentucky in the 1890's, when groups formed making music on common household items like washboards, washtubs & jugs. Heavily influenced by Ragtime and early jazz , these bands created a rhythmic, rough, rollicking sound that was perfect for street performance, and entertaining crowds at the the Kentucky Derby ... As the sound caught on, jug bands traveled on the riverboats up and down the Mississippi, from Louisville to New Orleans .. Memphis, Tennessee, a major hub, was where jug bands had their heyday .. The Memphis's Beale Street district in the early 1900's became a mecca for blues musicians and the perfect place for jug band music to take hold.. Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers, Memphis Jug band, Mississippi Sheiks, to name a few...
We, the K.C. Moaners, try to stay as close to this traditional sound and energy as we are able, honoring the time, place & people who created it..." ___________________________________________________________________
