Starting Block Music Sessions
The Compass Performing Arts Center located on the Elmwood Avenue strip, in the heart of downtown Buffalo, New York, is hosting a live-music showcase entitled the Starting Block Music Sessions. The Starting Block Music Sessions will feature a local band or musician in an "open house" rehearsal forum. Audience members are encouraged to be interactive with musicians. Band members or soloist will be open to answering questions regarding the creative process, inspiration behind songs, and any other related creativity. In addition to the concept of open-rehearsal sessions, the program will also feature singer/songwriter showcases, original music presentation by regional bands and evenings featuring multiple bands and soloists.
Featured for the October 26th showcase are Americana rockers, The Scratchy Amps. For the Gen Xers, their sound is reminiscent of the Slash Records recording artists. For everyone else, its a great blend of folk-rock, vocal harmonies and engaging lyrics.
Following The Scratchy Amps, singer/songwriter Robert A Insana will offer a collection of original songs. A combination of bluesy compositions, a channeling of John Lennon lyrical quality, and expertise guitar work, an evening of listening is well worth it.
The showcase follows a performance of local playwright Mark Humphrey's "The Kindness of Strangers" produced by the Navigation Theatre Company. Those who attend the production are invited to stay for the showcase.
Showcase is at 8 pm. Price is $5
