Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray - Upper Grizzly Creek/Bear Trap
22nd Annual Yuba Watershed Fungus Foray
December 14th, 2019
9 am to 4:30 pm
Start the day at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center. After a short introduction, you will carpool with your group to Upper Grizzly Creek, on the San Juan Ridge above North Columbia.
This is one of our higher elevation regular sites. There are mature forests of madrone, black oak, Douglas-fir, and pine, and a creek to explore. Look for bumps in the conifer duff. Attention: Please do not disturb rare fungi species known to occur here. Edible varieties found in the past: Chanterelle, Lions Mane, and Shrimp Russula
Please note: Good driving abilities needed, 4WD recommended.
Bring a bagged lunch and be prepared to walk in the damp woods. Also useful: collection basket, waxed paper bags, knife, and hand lens. Please carpool if possible. This is a rain or shine event.
Following the collection foray, we will come together at the Shady Creek Outdoor School and Event Center for identification discussions, fungi related presentations, educational workshops, and there will be wild mushroom soups and other wild crafted and delicious food for sale.
